A man was fatally shot as he sat in his vehicle in Long Beach, and an investigation is underway Thursday, police said.
Officers were sent to Atlantic Avenue and Esther Street about 6:35 p.m. Wednesday, the Long Beach Police Department reported.
“Upon arrival, officers located a male adult victim unresponsive in the roadway and lying next to his parked vehicle,” police said in a statement.
Nashon Wall, 31, of Signal Hill died at a hospital, police said.
“Homicide detectives … discovered the victim was approached by multiple male subjects,” police said. “At least one of the men produced a handgun and fired at the victim as he sat in his vehicle. The suspects quickly ran away from the area and into a nearby apartment complex.
“The Long Beach Police Department’s Special Weapons and Tactics team responded and served a search warrant at a nearby apartment,” police said. “Firearm evidence was collected from the apartment by the Forensic Science Services Division. The evidence will be analyzed and reviewed to determine if it is connected to the murder. No arrests have been made at this time.”
A motive for the killing was not known, police said. Anyone with information on the case was urged to call homicide detectives at 562-570-7244, or Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS.
