LA Public Works president resigns amid reports of interest in council seat

Los Angeles Board of Public Works President Greg Good, who is believed to be considering a run for a City Council seat, announced Monday he is stepping down from the board.
“I have been humbled and honored to collaborate with such dedicated colleagues as we worked to make positive change in the lives of those we serve. Together, we moved the needle in creating a more equitable, just, and accessible city for all — and I’m very proud of our work,” said Good, whose resignation is effective Monday.
Good became president of the board in July 2020, and during his tenure worked to establish the Climate Emergency Mobilization Office and the Workforce Equity Demonstration Project, as well as other environmental equity and justice programs, according to the Board of Public Works.
“I am very grateful to Mayor (Eric) Garcetti for giving me the opportunity to work with this administration on so many important city priorities — and while the next chapter for me will be exciting and challenging, I greatly appreciate the experiences, relationships, and perspective these years have provided. I thank you all.”
Good could not immediately be reached for comment on a potential run for the Los Angeles City Council, but the Los Angeles Times reported that he has expressed interest in running for Council District 11. That seat is being vacated by Councilman Mike Bonin, who announced Wednesday he will not seek reelection, citing his struggle with depression.
On the Board of Public Works, Good acted as a liaison to the Bureau of Sanitation, including on issues involving homelessness, like the CARE and CARE+ encampment cleaning program, the board said. He was also a part of the development of the Zero Wasted Water initiative and was on the committee investigating the July 11 sewage spill at the Hyperion Water Reclamation Plant, according to the board.
Before being appointed to the board, Good served as Garcetti’s Chief of Legislative and External Affairs, where he oversaw the mayor’s regional legislative agenda and relations with the City Council, Los Angeles County, the Los Angeles Unified School District and more.
