Westfield Santa Anita, the premier shopping center in the San Gabriel Valley, kicked off its month-long celebration of the celebration of the Year of the Tiger today with local officials and community members.

“Lunar New Year is a deeply important celebration of culture and community for many families in Arcadia and the San Gabriel Valley,” said Ian Carter, General Manager at Westfield Santa Anita. “We are proud to serve this community and excited to celebrate the 10th annual Lunar New Year event at Westfield Santa Anita with our local leaders and long-time partners.”

A 7-foot golden tiger will serve as the centerpiece of this year’s Center Court decorations. The installation will also include a gold “wishing well” where shoppers can donate to the Asian Pacific Community Fund (APCF), which invests in organizations that empower underserved Asian and Pacific Islanders. Westfield Santa Anita will match all donations up to $5,000. In previous years, Westfield Santa Anita shoppers have raised over $10,000 for the APCF. Arcadia Mayor Sho Tay joined Westfield representatives and community members to give the first donation.

“The Lunar New Year is a pride point for many residents who I represent in my district and therefore important to me,” said Los Angeles County Supervisor Kathryn Barger. “Today’s celebration is about looking forward, a focus on new beginnings and on the importance of family – concepts that I strongly believe in and support. I’d like to add my voice in wishing good fortune, health and happiness to all.”

City of Arcadia Mayor Sho Tay said: “I am proud of the resilience this community has shown during these uncertain times. I wish everyone a Happy and Heathy year of the Tiger.”

“Lunar New Year is the most important and most festive holiday of the year for many Asians, including Chinese, Taiwanese, Vietnamese and Korean,” said Chen-Yun Chen, Executive Director, Asian Pacific Community Fund. “With the rise in anti-Asian hate incidents related to blaming Asian people for the pandemic around the San Gabriel Valley and nation, we believe that the best way to stop Asian hate is to appreciate and celebrate our Asian culture in order to build a harmony community. We want to thank Westfield Santa Anita for their continuous support of the Asian community and inviting APCF once again to be a part of their annual Lunar New Year celebration.”

In addition to the APCF, Westfield Santa Anita is also partnering with the Chinese American Museum to promote upcoming exhibits and cultural programing at the museum.

Michael Truong, Chinese American Museum Executive Director said: “Once again, Westfield Santa Anita has brought to life the spirit that accompanies the arrival of the Lunar New Year. We proudly join with our Westfield friends in welcoming the Year of the Tiger and wishing everyone good fortune and, above all, good health.”

Westfield is offering a Gift with Purchase promotion to celebrate the holiday. From January 21 to January 30, 2022, guests who spend $88 or more at three or more retailers will be invited to visit the Concierge and choose between 8 red envelopes containing either an $8, $88 or $888 reward.*

Westfield Santa Anitia’s Lunar New Year Community Celebration will take place on Saturday, Jan. 29, from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. in the center’s outdoor Promenade. The celebration will include Lion Dances, live music and entertainment, children’s crafts and activities, photo opportunities and promotions from the mall’s retailers and restaurants.
