A homeless man who was shot at a park in Long Beach last week has died at a hospital, authorities said Wednesday.

Omar Akers, 33, was shot at about 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 29 in the 800 block of East Seventh Street, and died Tuesday, the Long Beach Police Department reported.

“The preliminary investigation revealed that the victim was in the park when an unknown suspect or suspects approached him and began shooting,” police said in a statement.

No arrests have been reported, and no suspect description was available. A motive for the shooting was not known, police said.

Anyone with information on the crime was urged to call homicide detectives at 562-570-7244, or Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS.
