Paid ‘Angeleno Corps’ to give 400 local youth service jobs

Mayor Eric Garcetti Monday launched a paid 10-month program that will give 400 young Angelenos the opportunity to gain work experience by serving the city.
The Angeleno Corps program will give each participant $1,000 a month as they provide services related to education and child care, health equity and environmental justice, digital equity and family immigration assistance. The service will be focused on neighborhoods most impacted by COVID-19.
“Investing in young people is key to our L.A. comeback,” Garcetti said. “With the Angeleno Corps program, we are providing young Angelenos with a path to pursue their career goals — and the opportunity to help their communities recover and thrive.”
The program prioritizes applicants who have been impacted by the pandemic, as well as people who have experienced housing insecurity and are enrolled in a Los Angeles Community College District campus.
Nearly 40 community organizations have signed on as partners with the city to offer program participants work experience, including Kedren Community Health Center, which will host 25 of the Angeleno Corps as they assist with primary care support and mobile COVID-19 vaccination and testing efforts.
“Kedren Health welcomes the Angeleno Corps. These young men and women represent the best of Los Angeles and we all should be proud that their first contribution to the workforce will be in providing culturally-responsive and integrated healthcare, community outreach, and engagement services to the most vulnerable communities,” said Dr. John Griffith, president of Kedren Community Health Center Inc.
The Angeleno Corps. was first announced by Garcetti as part of his “Justice Budget” announcement ahead of the 2021-22 fiscal year.
