Mayor Eric Garcetti and the United Kingdom’s Department for Transport Minister Trudy Harrison Thursday signed a memorandum of understanding to promote ways for municipalities to reduce emissions and adopt sustainable methods of transportation infrastructure.

Under the MOU, Los Angeles and the U.K. will work together to reach their goals on reducing carbon emissions by sharing new technology and methods. According to Garcetti’s office, it was the first MOU to be signed by both parties after the United Nations Conference of Parties in Glasgow, earlier this month.

“Los Angeles is proud to partner with the U.K. to speed up our transition to zero-emissions technology,” Garcetti said. “This MOU will deepen the bond between our city and the U.K., and help move us closer to our shared goal of cleaner air and a healthier, more sustainable future for the people we serve.”

Harrison said the agreement marks a new era of the U.K. and Los Angeles working together to reduce transportation emissions.

“By sharing best practices, we can promote innovation in transport as we strive to reach our climate commitments — helping to drive down emissions and clean up the air we breathe on both sides of the Atlantic,” Harrison said.
