Former Duarte Mayor and Councilmember John Fasana will be honored by the City Council with an unveiling of Fasana Road on Tuesday at 4 p.m.

The current Duarte City Council adopted Resolution No. 21-19 on Sept. 28 to rename Business Center Drive to Fasana Road in celebration of Fasana’s 33 years of service on the governing body.

Fasana, who represented District 2, announced he wouldn’t be running for reelection in June 2020. Fasana was first elected to the Duarte City Council in November 1987 and was re-elected in subsequent elections. He first served as mayor in 1990 and had the title five other times during his tenure.

“Duarte has advanced enormously from Councilmember Fasana’s outstanding leadership, especially in the area of transportation which has not only benefited our residents, but improved Los Angeles County as a whole,” said then Mayor and current District 5 Councilman Samuel Kang of Fasana’s retirement. “I know I speak for the entire City Council in thanking him for his exemplary public service. His expertise and professionalism have been transformative to Duarte and the San Gabriel Valley.”

Fasana represented the San Gabriel Valley on the Los Angeles County Metro Board since its inception in 1993 and was instrumental in the establishment of the Foothill Extension Construction Authority Board that built the Gold Line light-rail station in Duarte and extension to Azusa that began operating in March 2016. Together with his council colleagues, Fasana worked on many youth issues including the opening of the Duarte Teen Center, building new parks, and developing a new middle school and performing arts center. He also served on the Duarte Education Foundation and local YMCA boards.

The public and media are invited to attend the unveiling which will take place at the corner of Denning Avenue and Fasana Road (formerly Business Center Drive).
