A motorist was taken into custody Friday after leading Seal Beach police on a brief vehicle chase on Garden Grove (22) Freeway during which a non-injury shooting occurred involving officers, authorities said.

About 12:40 a.m., the Seal Beach officers “located a vehicle previously involved in an assault on a peace officer, and a pursuit ensued,” according to a statement from the California Highway Patrol, which is investigating the incident.

“The vehicle entered SR-22 westbound and was involved in a traffic collision in the area of Valley View Street,” the CHP statement said.

“Officers attempted to take the driver into custody when an officer-involved shooting occurred,” the CHP reported. “The vehicle continued off of the freeway where a second traffic collision occurred in the area of Garden Grove Boulevard, west of Goldenwest Street, where the driver was subsequently taken into custody without incident.”

The suspect, whose name was not immediately available, was taken to a hospital for medical clearance, the CHP reported.

“There are no reported injuries to the suspect or the officers involved in this incident,” the CHP reported.

Information was not available on the original incident involving an alleged assault on a peace officer.
