A fire damaged an abandoned commercial building that formerly housed a school in Covina Tuesday, but no one was hurt.
The fire was reported about 3 a.m. in the 16200 block of East San Bernardino Road, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
Firefighters went into a defensive operation to keep the flames from spreading to other buildings. The property has been abandoned for several years, the fire department reported.
Some firefighters were expected to remain on scene after daybreak, working to ensure that the flames were fully extinguished. The cause of the fire was under investigation.
