Police Thursday were seeking the public’s help to locate a hit-and-run driver who left a 29-year-old motorcyclist fatally injured in the Downey area.

Austin Carey, of Rialto, was riding his 2021 Kawasaki motorcycle eastbound on the Century (105) Freeway east of Woodruff Avenue about 1:45 p.m. Sept. 29 when he moved between the carpool and left lanes and collided with an unidentified vehicle, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The collision caused Carey to lose control of his motorcycle, and he was ejected onto the roadway, where he was struck by a Freightliner utility truck driven by 58-year-old Joel Marquez, also of Rialto.

Marquez stopped his truck and called 9-1-1, according to the CHP. Responding paramedics pronounced Carey dead at the scene.

The first vehicle Carey collided with fled the scene and remains outstanding. Anyone with information on the collision was asked to contact CHP Officer K. Solomita or Officer K. Tao at 562-868-0503.
