A woman sued Nigerian-American singer Davido and a socialite from that country, alleging both sexually assaulted her during a party at the singer’s rented Hollywood Hills home in 2019 after she and her sister had earlier watched him perform at a nightclub.
The plaintiff is identified only as Jane Doe in the Los Angeles Superior Court lawsuit brought against Davido, whose real name is David Adedeji Adeleke, as well as Special Spesh, a Nigerian socialite whose actual name is Edward Chukwuma Ijah.
The suit filed Wednesday alleges sexual battery, gender violence, battery, assault, aiding and abetting, conspiracy, premises liability and intentional infliction of emotional distress. Doe seeks unspecified compensatory and punitive damages.
Representatives for Davido and Special Spesh could not be immediately reached for comment.
Doe and her sister attended a gathering of about 15 people the evening of Sept. 29, 2019, on the top floor of Davido’s rented Mulholland Drive home, the suit states. She had been invited by Special Spesh, who she met some days earlier and also was at the party, the suit states.
When Doe arrived, she was told that Davido would be performing that evening at a nightclub, Nightingale Plaza, where those at the party would attend, the suit states. Doe and her sister met Davido and members of his entourage, including someone who Doe believes was Davido’s manager, the suit states.
Doe and her sister parked their car inside the home’s garage and were driven by Special Spesh to the Nightingale Plaza, where Doe and her sister drank alcohol that was allegedly paid for by Davido. Doe and her sister enjoyed the performance and then went back to his home without about 10 to 12 others, the suit states.
Upon arrival, the party continued past midnight on the top floor and Doe drank more alcohol supplied by Adeleke, according to the suit.
“At this point, (Doe) was beyond the level of impairment, however, (she) felt safe as she had her sister there along with other people whom (Doe) had met at the Nightingale,” the suit states.
Special Spesh later asked Doe if she wanted a tour of the large home and the plaintiff, disoriented and highly intoxicated, agreed, the suit states. He allegedly led her to a lower, isolated floor of the residence to a workout room.
“It was in this room where (Special Spesh) began making physical sexual advances at (Doe) to which (she) resisted and repeatedly said, `No,’ the suit states. “(Doe) was not the least bit interested in (Special Spesh) in a sexual manner.”
However, Special Spesh then groped Doe and began sexually assaulting her, the suit states.
“(Doe) could not physically stop the attack as (Special Spesh) was much larger and powerful than (her),” the suit states.
Doe believes he weighed more than 300 pounds.
Although Davido entered the room at one point and she pleaded with him not to leave, the singer departed anyway, the suit states.
Shortly thereafter, Doe’s sister saw Davido and asked him if he had seen her sibling, the suit states.
“Adeleke assured her by saying, `She’s good, she’s fine,”‘ the suit states, a statement that temporarily eased Doe’s sister’s mind and so she later fell asleep, according to the suit.
Davido later returned to the workout room and got into an argument with Special Spesh in what Doe believed was a foreign language, the suit states. Davido, who was holding a cup, poured what Doe believed to be alcohol into her mouth and then later placed a marijuana joint in her mouth, the suit states.
Davido then took Doe to a nearby room with a sauna and sexually assaulted her himself, the suit states.
“(Doe) was unable to fight off (Davido) in her highly intoxicated state,” the suit states.
Doe passed out and woke up later that morning, reunited with her sister and the two left the home, the suit states. Later that day, she reported what happened to Los Angeles police and the LAPD later confirmed that a rape kit test revealed the presence of male DNA, according to the suit.
Doe has suffered physical injury, severe emotional distress, humiliation, embarrassment, mental and emotional distress and anxiety because of the alleged sexual assaults, the suit states.
Davido rose to fame after releasing “Dami Duro,” the second single from his debut studio album, “Omo Baba Olowo.”
