Parking violation leads to felon’s arrest in Pomona
A convicted felon is in police custody Saturday after a parking violation led to his arrest in Pomona.
Freddy Paul Monroy, 47, of Pomona was arrested for being a felon in possession of a firearm, possession of an unregistered firearm and being a felon in possession of ammunition, said Sgt. Mark Medellin of the Pomona Police Department’s Major Crimes Task Force.
Officers from the task force were patrolling a neighborhood that police say is known for criminal activity and at approximately 10:43 p.m. Friday noticed a white pick-up truck in the 1800 block of West Orange Grove Avenue parked in the red zone of the neighborhood, police said.
Upon closer inspection the officers noticed Monroy was the vehicle’s only occupant and after interviewing him outside his truck Monroy voluntarily allowed them to pat him down, Medellin said.
During the search officers found Monroy armed with the unregistered, loaded firearm and arrested him.
Anyone with information regarding the arrest is urged to contact the Pomona Police Department at 909-620-2085.
