An 80-year-old man was behind bars Wednesday on a charge of killing his girlfriend in Tustin.

Charles Bennett Stockwell, who was being held on $1 million bail, was charged Sept. 20 with a count of murder, according to court records.

He is accused of killing 73-year-old Donna Amelotte of Tustin, according to Sgt. Todd Hylton of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.

Stockwell called Tustin police on Sept. 16 to report that his girlfriend was dead and that he stabbed himself, according to Lt. Stephanie Nichols of the Tustin Police Department.

When police arrived, they found the victim’s body inside and took Stockwell to a hospital, Nichols said.
