A man was arrested at the end of a 41-minute pursuit from Newhall to Simi Valley after fighting with California Highway Patrol officers as they tried to put handcuffs on him, authorities said Monday.

The pursuit started about 5:25 p.m. Sunday on the southbound Golden State (5) Freeway at Lake Hughes Road in the Newhall area when the man was observed speeding in a sedan, CHP Officer Patrick Kimball said.

The pursuit continued southbound on the Golden State Freeway past Balboa Avenue and wound up westbound on the 118 Freeway where an officer stopped the car with a PIT maneuver at Rocky Peak Road, Kimball said.

The man complied when ordered out of the car but began to fight with the officers when they started putting on handcuffs, Kimball said.

He was ultimately handcuffed and taken into custody for suspicion of felony evading, the officer said. The pursuit ended at 6:08 p.m.
