Authorities Friday were looking for the vandal who broke eight stained-glass windows at St. Peter Armenian Apostolic Church in Van Nuys.
The crime occurred about 1:30 a.m. Thursday at the church at 17321 Sherman Way, the Los Angeles Police Department reported.
The suspect, described only as a male, apparently used a baseball bat to break the windows, the LAPD reported.
The case is not being investigated as a hate crime at this time, police said. Church security video was turned over to police.-
“We regret to inform our St. Peter faithful community this morning of a horrific act of vandalism,” the church posted on its Facebook page Thursday.
“Late last night a masked individual broke eight of our sanctuary’s stained glass windows, adjacent to the main street of Sherman Way. There is significant amount of stained glass implosion on the property. There has also been vandalism done to the sign of the neighboring church on our property. No one has been harmed. … The Parish Priest and the Parish Council are taking immediate measures to secure and protect St. Peter Armenian Church.”
