Los Angeles County Supervisor Kathryn Barger will join Department of Public Social Services Director Antonia Jiménez and the Toy Loan team Monday to host a backpack giveaway for low-income children, ages 5 through 17, in the Pasadena and Altadena communities.
The drive-thru event will be from 3 p.m. to 5p.m. on Sept, 20, 2021 at Charles S. Farnsworth Park, 568 Mount Curve Ave., Altadena, CA 91001. About 300 families will receive backpacks filled with rulers, pens, pencils, notebooks, calculators, erasers, and more.
All items will be placed into vehicles as families drive through in order to practice social distancing. Staff from the L.A. County Departments of Parks and Recreation, Library, and Internal Services Department will volunteer onsite. Nonprofit partner Baby2Baby will distribute diapers and wipes for younger siblings.
Over the past five years, L.A. County employees have donated more than 3,600 backpacks with school supplies to local children.
