Man arrested after 7-hour standoff with law enforcement in Carson

A man who barricaded himself in a residential area in Carson surrendered to sherriff’s deputies early Wednesday after a standoff of more than seven hours, authorities said.

Deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Special Enforcement Bureau responded at 6:08 p.m. Tuesday to the 22800 block of Anchor Avenue, where the suspect was barricaded, said Deputy Morgan Arteaga.

Around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, the man — whose identity was not immediately released — was taken into custody without incident, Arteaga said.

It was not immediately known what prompted the barricade situation, why deputies were called or why the suspect might be wanted. It was also not known if the suspect was armed.

While Arteaga described the barricade site as in a residential area, she did not have more specific information.

Anyone with information about the incident was asked to contact the Sheriff’s Department’s Compton Station at 310-605-6500. Tipsters can also call Crime Stoppers at 900-222-8477 or use the website http://lacrimestoppers.org.
