Buena Park police Tuesday released the identity of a suspect killed in a conflict with police last week.

He was identified as 60-year-old Cedric Baxter of Compton.

On Friday, a Buena Park police officer saw a man shooting from a vehicle at a school bus near Orangethorpe and Western avenues and tried to stop the car, police said. The driver kept going and a chase ensued.

The chase continued through the city before the suspect pulled into the parking lot of the Buena Park School District offices just before 2 p.m. at 6885 Orangethorpe Ave. He was subsequently shot as two officers opened fire, police said.

Baxter was pronounced dead at the scene and police recovered a gun there, authorities said.

The Orange County District Attorney’s Office is investigating the case, which is routine in shootings involving police officers or sheriff’s deputies.
