4 injured after car crashes into Koreatown encampment

Four people were injured Tuesday when a car crashed onto a sidewalk and into a homeless encampment in the Koreatown area.

The crash was reported about 6 a.m. in the 500 block of South Virgil Avenue, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Firefighters freed one person who was trapped beneath the vehicle, the LAFD reported. Three people in the car also were injured, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Paramedics took the four injured people to a hospital, one in “moderate” condition and three in fair condition, the LAFD reported.

According to reports from the scene, the car hit a homeless man who was asleep at the time, pinning him beneath the vehicle.

The circumstances of the crash were under investigation.
