La Cañada Flintridge announces formal complaint against SCE for outages
La Cañada Flintridge City Council, with clearance from the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC), approved the filing of a formal complaint against Southern California Edison (SCE) after a meeting between the two parties on Monday, Aug. 30.
The complaint arose after unplanned power outages were continuing to occur throughout the community over the last two months. La Cañada Flintridge City Council argues that these outages pose “risks to the health, safety and welfare of residents and business owners.”
“We understand the significant impacts these outages have on our community and the City is exploring every action available to find and implement a solution,” said La Cañada Flintridge Mayor Terry Walker.
The city has heard the concerns and frustrations from residents in prior city council meetings, as the outages have become commonplace compared to surrounding communities.
The consistency of this issue and its interrelated health concerns, along with a presentation provided by the SCE earlier this year that prioritized circuit reliability, allowed the city council to determine that further action was needed to address the issue.
The complaint filed requests a formal review by the CPUC to investigate the causes of the recurring outages and to make a determination as to the appropriateness of SCE’s response efforts.
