Authorities Thursday identified a man who was killed when the vehicle he was driving crashed off the side of Big Tujunga Canyon Road in the Angeles National Forest north of Altadena.

William Gibbard, 55, of Acton, died at scene of the crash, which was reported about 10 p.m. Tuesday west of County Fire Marker 2.92, according to the Los Angeles County coroner’s office and the California Highway Patrol.

“For unknown reasons (the) vehicle ran off the roadway … continued out of control down the mountainside, rolling over an unknown amount of times, before coming to rest 185 feet down the mountainside,” a CHP statement said.
