A Silver Alert is in effect Tuesday for an at-risk 88- year-old man last seen in Whittier.

The California Highway Patrol issued the alert Monday on behalf of the Whittier Police Department for Daniel James Heider, who was last seen at 10:05 a.m. Monday at 15414 Fernview St.

Heider is white, 5-feet-9 inches tall, weighs 170 pounds and has gray hair and brown eyes. He is believed to be wearing a white T-shirt, blue jeans, white running shoes and a light-colored bucket hat. Heider uses a black cane.

Anyone who sees him is asked to call 911.

The Silver Alert program was established by the CHP to issue and coordinate alerts involving the unexplained or suspicious disappearance of elderly, developmentally disabled or cognitively impaired individuals.
