A 14-year-old boy was found shot to death in an unincorporated area of Compton, and sheriffs homicide detectives Wednesday are investigating.

Deputies responded about 8:58 p.m. Tuesday to the 4200 block of East San Luis Street, where they found the youth in a camper parked in an alley suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper torso, said Deputy Tracy Koerner of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Information Bureau.

The boy’s family told deputies he had been missing since Sunday and that they had reported him missing to the sheriff’s department on Monday.

While searching for his son on Tuesday, the teen’s father found him dead inside the camper, Koerner said.

The boy was pronounced dead at the scene.

There was no additional information immediately available.

Anyone with information about the shooting was encouraged to contact the Sheriff’s Department’s Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500. Anonymous tips can be called in to Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477 or submitted online at lacrimestoppers.org.
