Lake Elsinore drowning victim identified as Fontana man

A Lake Elsinore drowning victim was publicly identified Monday by the Riverside County coroner’s office.

Authorities began searching for Myron Cox, 59, of Fontana, after he disappeared Saturday afternoon during a lake outing.

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department said he had been swimming with a family member near their boat when the boat began to drift away. That’s when Cox went underwater and never resurfaced, sheriff’s officials said.

Divers combed the lake for hours on Saturday but were unable to locate the man. They resumed the search on Sunday, and found his body about noon that day.

It was the second drowning in Lake Elsinore this summer. In June, a 38- year-old Los Angeles man drowned in the lake after he got off his jet ski and went into the water to retrieve a lost item.
