Man arrested on weapons, drug crimes in Glendale

A man was arrested in Glendale after an officer allegedly found a pair of “ghost” handguns — firearms without serial numbers — in his parked vehicle, police said Friday.

Robert Pena, 33, a transient, was taken into custody about 9 p.m. Tuesday in the 600 block of Ivy Street, the Glendale Police Department reported.

Pena was booked on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a concealed firearm in a vehicle, possessing ammunition while prohibited, possessing a large capacity magazine, identity theft and possessing controlled substances for sale, police said.

A Glendale police officer on patrol saw a vehicle double-parked on the wrong side of the street and stopped to investigate, police said.

“The vehicle was unoccupied, and during the officer’s investigation, a male approached the officer and claimed the vehicle belonged to him,” police said in a statement.

“In plain view, the officer noticed a glass pipe and several knives in the vehicle,” police said. “A search of the vehicle produced two handguns without serial numbers on them — one of which was loaded with more than 20 rounds — a loaded magazine, a bag containing what resembled methamphetamine and other narcotics … and a large sum of cash.”

The officer also found two access cards belonging to other people in Pena’s wallet, police said.
