A motorist who confronted another driver on a Foothill (210) Freeway off-ramp in Irwindale Thursday morning was met with gunfire but escaped injury, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The road rage shooting was reported at about 8 a.m. on the eastbound 210 at the Irwindale Avenue off-ramp, said CHP Officer Ramondo Alexander.

The motorists both stopped their vehicles on the off-ramp, where “the victim exited their vehicle to confront the suspect,” Alexander said. The driver told the CHP the suspect “brandished a weapon and fired several shots,” he said.

Investigators were talking to “a person of interest,” Alexander said.

The CHP issued a SigAlert shutting down the Irwindale Avenue off-ramp from the eastbound 210 for about two hours for the shooting investigation.
