Culver City police Thursday released surveillance video of a man suspected of attacking a woman of Asian American descent as she walked to work.

The attack happened about 1 a.m. June 14 in the 13300 block of Washington Boulevard, according to Culver City police.

The suspect approached the woman and asked her for a cigarette, police said. She told him she did not have any and began to walk away, but he approached from behind, yelled a racial slur and hit her on the side of her head, causing her to fall to the ground. He fled on foot.

The woman suffered a severe cut to her right ear but was expected to make a full recovery, police said.

The video, posted on YouTube, begins with a statement by police that the original surveillance video had not generated new investigative leads.

The man was originally described as white, about 35 years old, 5 feet, 9 inches, heavy-set with light hair. The new video shows a man walking into a business, possibly a convenience or liquor store. He is heavy set, with light brown hair and full beard, wearing an olive green T-shirt with a white T-shirt showing underneath, long dark shorts and dark shoes.

Anyone with information was asked to call the Culver City Police Department Detective Bureau at 310-253-6300.
