Three young children were found dead Monday in a bedroom at a residence in East Los Angeles, and a woman believed to be their mother was taken into custody as a “person of interest.”

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department personnel responded to the residence in the 600 block of Ferris Avenue, in the Belvedere Gardens area, at about 12:45 p.m. Homicide investigators were then called to the scene, according to LASD.

The children, who were all reported to be under the age of 3 by CBSLA, were pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities did not indicate how they died.

A 28-year-old woman, believed to be the children’s mother, was identified as a person of interest in the deaths and was taken into custody Monday afternoon. Her name was not immediately released.

Anyone with information about the case was asked to contact the sheriff’s Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500. Anonymous tips can be called in to Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477 or submitted online at lacrimestoppers.org.
