Two men were shot, one fatally, in a gang-related attack in Long Beach, and the suspect was being sought Thursday.

The shooting occurred about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday in front of an apartment complex near Ackerman Avenue and South Street, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

Kenneth Cornett, 27, of Bell Gardens died at the scene, police said. The second man was taken to a hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound that was not believed life-threatening, police said. His name was not released.

According to police, the men were with two other people at the location when a dark-colored car approached and someone inside it opened fire. The crime was being investigated as gang related, police said.

Anyone with information on the case was urged to call detectives at 562-570-7244, or Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS. To submit an anonymous tip online go to lacrimestoppers.org.
