Officers Thursday arrested a man who led them on a chase in a Toyota Tacoma on freeways and surface streets that ended when the pickup truck overturned after being rammed by a patrol vehicle in the Mid- Wilshire area.
The chase ended about 9:45 a.m. near San Vicente and Redondo boulevards, where the unidentified driver was pulled from the truck and taken into custody. Paramedics loaded the man into an ambulance, but there was no word on his condition.
The chase began about 9:15 a.m. on the westbound Glenn Anderson (105) Freeway near the Long Beach (710) Freeway, where the suspect allegedly committed a traffic violation, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The driver kept going, eventually exiting onto surface streets. At one point during the chase, the motorist waved at a news helicopter crew monitoring the chase overhead.
Officers tried a PIT maneuver at least three times unsuccessfully before the final try, during which the pickup overturned and came to rest on its roof.
