A man was found dead Monday afternoon near the bottom of a cliff below Point Fermin Park in San Pedro.
Los Angeles Fire Department personnel located the man at about 4:15 p.m. and believed him to be stranded, according to department spokesperson Nicholas Prange.
LAFD crews set up a high-angle rope rescue to reach the bottom of the cliff and retrieve the man, Prange said. However, rescuers discovered the man was dead as they descended.
LAFD personnel were attempting to retrieve the body as of 5:30 p.m.
The man’s name was not released and it was not immediately clear how he died.
