The search was on for a 35-year-old inmate who walked away from a Male Community Reentry Program facility in Los Angeles early today.
Michael Rogers was determined to have left the facility at 3745 S. Grand Ave. without authorization at 1:25 a.m., according to California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation officials.
He was serving a five-year, eight-month sentence for vehicle theft as a second-striker and was scheduled for release in May, officials said.
Rogers is 6 feet, 1 inch tall and weighs 256 pounds, officials said. A photo on the CDCR website shows Rogers with a shaved head, brown beard, brown eyes and tattoos on his neck.
Anyone who sees Rogers or knows his whereabouts was encouraged to call law enforcement or 911.
Inmate Jaime Clara walked away from one of the three Male Community Reentry Program facilities in Los Angeles Wednesday but was located at a Gardena residence and taken into custody later that day.
The reentry facilities allow inmates to serve the end of their sentences while being provided the tools needed to transition from custody to the community, officials said.
There are three such facilities in Los Angeles including the one on Grand Avenue, at 566 S. San Pedro St. and 2307 W. Sixth St., according to the CDCR website.
