Mayor Eric Garcetti announced this weekend that the City of Los Angeles will open up vaccinations to Angelenos age 16 and older, starting on Tuesday. L.A. County residents can now start making appointments for this week on the city’s online portal. This eligibility expansion comes as the city assumes operations at the Cal State L.A. site.

“Opening vaccine eligibility to all Angelenos who are 16 and older is a major milestone in our efforts to get more shots into more arms and defeat COVID-19 once and for all,” said Garcetti. “We urge patience as we continue to ramp up our operations, obtain more doses, and enter this new phase of our campaign to end the pandemic. But our commitment remains clear: as soon as vaccines are available, we are ready to administer them swiftly and safely.”

This week, the city is expected to receive nearly 60,000 doses of the Moderna vaccine and 56,000 of Pfizer, and still has about 15,000 doses of Johnson and Johnson in its supply. City vaccination sites will be able to administer more than 130,000 doses — including approximately 60,000 first dose appointments and 70,000 second doses — across nine permanent sites and through the city’s Mobile Outreach for Vaccine Equity (MOVE) program.

As the state hands over operations at Cal State L.A., the city now has the capacity to administer up to 54,000 vaccines a day across the entire city, pending supply. The Los Angeles Fire Department (L.A.F.D.) will lead the team at Cal State L.A., supported by staff from Community Organized Relief Effort (CORE), as well as those contracted locally for the site through FEMA and CalOES.

“The Cal State Los Angeles vaccine site has been critical in California’s ability to support some of the communities most impacted by COVID-19. We appreciate the leadership of Mayor Garcetti and the city to keep this hugely successful site open for the weeks to come,” said CalOES Director Mark Ghilarducci.

In addition to Cal State LA, the city has permanent locations at San Fernando Park, Hansen Dam, Crenshaw Christian Center, Lincoln Park, Pierce College, USC University Park, Los Angeles Southwest College, and Dodger Stadium. All sites will be open from Tuesday through Saturday between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Dodger Stadium will only be offering appointments until 1 p.m. this week from Tuesday through Thursday to accommodate home games, although the site will remain open until 4 p.m. First dose appointments are available online at Coronavirus.LACity.org/VaxAppointment.

City sites will offer second dose appointments this week for Angelenos who received their first Moderna shot between March 15-20 or their first Pfizer shot between March 23-27. Second dose patients should have received notifications with their appointment details recently by text and/or email. Patients should note that the date stamped on the C.D.C. vaccination cards received after their first dose is not an appointment confirmation. Instead, everyone should use the appointment details provided by Carbon Health.
