Pasadena detectives have identified persons of interest in the shooting death of a 23-year-old Azusa man who was sitting inside a parked car in Pasadena.

On Saturday, March 13, 2021, at approximately 8:56 p.m., Pasadena police received several calls of a shooting that occurred in the 2500 block of East Foothill Boulevard. Officers found two victims inside a parked vehicle. The 23-year-old man was struck numerous times by gunfire and would later die from his injuries after being transported to a local hospital. The other occupant of the car was a 19-year-old woman from Duarte who sustained only minor injuries and survived.

Both victims had been sitting inside of a parked car when the suspect(s) approached and began shooting, police said. The suspect(s) ran from the scene.

On Friday, April 2, 2021, members of the Pasadena police, along with assistance from the Pacific Southwest Regional Task Force team, served search warrants at various locations in the Southern California area. “Additional evidence was located and collected during the searches, which connected two individuals to the shooting,” according to the Pasadena Police Department. Evan Roland Bynum, a 26-year-old Los Angeles resident, and 33-year-old Irvine resident Dante Dejuan Ward were arrested.

On Tuesday, detectives presented the case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office for review. Bynum was charged with one count of murder and attempted murder. Bynum’s bail amount was set at $4,090,000. Ward was charged with one count murder and attempted murder. Ward’s bail was set at $3,140,000.
