Pasadena Crime Blotters: January 2021

Jan. 1
At 7:42 a.m., the Pasadena Police Department and Pasadena Fire Department personnel responded to a call of an injured male in the Arroyo, just south of the La Loma Bridge. Upon arrival, officers located the male in critical condition and he was rushed to a nearby hospital where he would later succumb to his injuries. Police Detectives and Arson Investigators were notified and responded to the scene for further investigation. This investigation is ongoing.
At 4:21 p.m., Pasadena Police Department received a call of an assault in the 900 block of Bell Street. The suspect and the elderly victims are neighbors and a dispute had arisen regarding their property lines. During the argument, the adult suspect physically assaulted the elderly couple’s adult son and cut the elderly male victim with a knife. The elderly female victim was also pushed by the suspect during the struggle, causing her to fall to the ground. Fortunately, she did not sustain any injuries as a result of the fall. Officers arrived and arrested the suspect for the assault.
Jan. 2
At 11:50 p.m., a passerby reported an assault in the 1600 block of East Colorado Boulevard. The witness observed the victim on the ground being punched and kicked by the suspect. The witness reported the incident to the Pasadena Police Department and remained in the area for the officers’ arrival. The suspect was taken into custody without incident and the victim was transported to the hospital for treatment.
Jan. 3
at 7:35pm: Officers attempted to stop a vehicle in the area of Hammond St. and Sunset Ave. for a vehicle code violation. The driver failed to yield and a short pursuit ensued. The driver stopped the vehicle a short time later and was detained, along with the passenger. During the search of the vehicle, officers recovered a loaded firearm and narcotics leading to the arrest of both the driver and passenger.
Jan. 4
At 9:50 p.m., officers were patrolling the area of Glen Avenue and Tremont Street. They conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle after observing a traffic violation. The driver was unlicensed and admitted to possessing a firearm inside of his vehicle. Officers recovered a loaded firearm, and the driver was arrested.
At 10:50 p.m., officers responded to a residence in the 1000 block of North Raymond Avenue regarding a suspect displaying a weapon. The victim was outside when a vehicle pulled into the complex and contacted the vehicle’s occupants since he did not recognize them. A male suspect told the victim to “Mind your own business” while displaying a knife and the female driver/suspect was seen displaying a firearm. The male re-entered the vehicle and they drove away. Officers searched the area but were unable to locate the suspect vehicle.
Jan. 5
At 8:37 a.m., Los Angeles County Sheriff Deputies contacted Pasadena Police Department regarding a homicide suspect they had detained at a Pasadena train platform. The suspect was wanted for a Dec. 28, 2020 homicide that had occurred in the Old Pasadena area. The suspect was turned over to Pasadena Homicide Detectives.
Jan. 8
At 11:51 p.m., officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for a failing the stop sign at a stop sign in the area of Howard Street and Navarro Avenue. The driver was determined to be unlicensed, leading to a search of the vehicle. A loaded handgun with obliterated serial numbers, was discovered inside the vehicle. Possessing such a firearm is a violation of the law. Both adult occupants were arrested.
Jan. 11
At 8:28 p.m., officers responded to a residence in the 700 block of East Orange Grove Boulevard regarding an individual overheard threatening to commit a shooting to gain the attention of his parents. Officers made contact with the suspect and the suspect admitted to making the threats but denied wanting to carry out the acts. A search of his vehicle was conducted and both a firearm and ammunition were located/recovered. Officers arrested the suspect for making criminal threats.
Jan. 12
At 12:22 p.m., officers responded to the 500 block of West Hammond Street regarding an assault. The victim reported that her adult son had physically assaulted her with his fists as she attempted to talk with him about a dispute involving the suspect’s sibling. The suspect fled the residence prior to the officers’ arrival but returned later and was arrested for the assault. The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Jan. 15
At 6:02 a.m., the victim, who is currently homeless, was sleeping in a tent in the area of Waverly Street and Fair Oaks Avenue when she awoke to the sound of a male’s voice. The male suspect crawled inside the tent and an argument ensued. The suspect produced a knife and stabbed the victim in her arm. He then took money from inside the tent and fled. Paramedics responded and transported the victim to the hospital for treatment. The wound was not life threatening. This investigation in ongoing.
At 5:46 p.m., officers responded to the area of Del Mar Boulevard and Oakland Avenue regarding the report of shots fired. Two victims were seated in their parked vehicle when the occupants of a different vehicle, began shooting at the victims. One occupant in the victim vehicle sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a local hospital. Detectives continue to investigate this shooting.
At 7:36 p.m., officers responded to the 1100 block of Sunset Avenue regarding a robbery. The victim was visiting family at the location when group gathered, preventing her from leaving in her vehicle. The female victim exited her vehicle and was initially punched by a male suspect. A female suspect began fighting with the victim and forcefully removed jewelry from the victim. During the fight, the male suspect entered the victim’s vehicle and removed property. The suspects fled before officers arrived.
At 7:53 p.m., a pedestrian entered the southbound lane of traffic on Arroyo Parkway at Glenarm Street which was directly in the path of an approaching vehicle. The vehicle struck the victim, causing significant injury. Paramedics responded and transported the injured pedestrian to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene was cooperative with the officer investigating the fatal collision. Neither alcohol nor drugs appear to have been a contributing factor.
At 9:48 p.m., officers responded to the area of El Molino Avenue and Prescott Street regarding the robbery of a delivery service driver. The victim had made a delivery to a residence in the area and upon returning to his vehicle, observed a male subject walking towards his vehicle. This subject displayed a handgun while a second suspect appeared, demanding the delivery driver’s money and vehicle. Fearing for his life, the victim exited his vehicle and the suspect fled with the vehicle. The victim was unharmed, and the vehicle was recovered later in the night. The remaining items in the delivery vehicle were missing when officers located the vehicle.
At 10:59 p.m., officers responded to the area of Fair Oaks Avenue and Maple Street regarding an assault that was taking place in the immediate area of a vehicle at the intersection. A passerby notified the police department of the incident and when officers arrived, it was learned the suspect in this case had entered the victim’s car while stopped at a different traffic signal and demanded the victim drive him to a local business. Fearing for his life, the driver instead decided to drive to the police department for assistance. The suspect became angry, recognizing the victim had passed the business and began assaulting the driver/victim. The driver stopped the car, forcibly removed the suspect from the car and the suspect eventually walked away. Responding officers located the suspect shortly after and he was taken into custody without incident.
Jan. 16
At 3:07 p.m., Pasadena Police officers were patrolling the area of a Navarro Avenue and Howard Street when they observed a vehicle run a stop sign. The officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop, when the driver of the vehicle ran a second stop sign. A short vehicle pursuit ensued and shortly thereafter, the vehicle came to a stop on Washington Boulevard near Navarro Avenue. The driver and passenger complied with the officers’ commands and it was determined the driver was unlicensed. During a search of the vehicle, a non-serialized handgun was found.
Jan. 17
At 8:06 p.m., officers in the area of Raymond Avenue and Mountain Street observed a vehicle on the roadway, which was being driven with a broken taillight, a violation of the California Vehicle Code. The officers conducted a traffic stop and contacted the driver, whose license was determined to be suspended. During a subsequent inventory search of the vehicle, numerous narcotics were located inside as well as a large sum of U.S. currency.
Jan. 18
At 5:14 p.m., officers responded to the area of 100 West Hammond Street in regard to a shooting. Callers reported hearing approximately 20 shots. Officers discovered evidence of a shooting and a local hospital notified the police department that a gunshot victim had been brought to the hospital. Two suspects were located in close proximity of the shooting and multiple firearms were located in their possession. The firearms were recovered, and the suspects were arrested.
Jan. 21
At 12:31 p.m., the owner of a vehicle that was parked in the 800 block of Manzanita Avenue called the police when he discovered bullet holes in his car. When officers arrived on scene, they found three vehicles, which appeared to have been struck by gunfire. Additional items of evidence were located indicative of a shooting and the evidence was collected. This investigation is ongoing, and no injuries were reported.
At 12:31 p.m., officers responded to a call for assistance by front desk personnel of the Police Department’s Records Section regarding a person who was being destructive with the lobby’s furniture. The first officer arrived and as he attempted to escort the violent individual outside, the suspect punched the officer in the face. Several officers subdued the suspect in a controlled manner and arrested him for the assault. The officers sustained only minor injuries during the incident.
Jan. 22
At 12:07 p.m., officers conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle for a vehicle code violation in the area of Hill Avenue and Orange Grove Boulevard. While contacting the driver, he was found to be in possession of a large knife attached to his waistband and narcotics were in plain view of the car’s passenger compartment. Incident to the driver’s arrest, officers discovered a handgun and a rifle during a search of the suspect’s vehicle.
At 11:15 p.m., officers responded to a residence in the 100 block of Los Altos Drive regarding a burglary. The victim, who was sleeping in his bedroom, was awakened by a noise and inquired as to why the suspect was in his room. The suspect communicated with another person (who was apparently inside the residence) and they both fled once it was determined the resident was awake. The victim called the police and officers arrived within minutes of the call, locating evidence of a break-in. A search was conducted but officers were unable to locate any suspects.
Jan. 23
At 3 a.m., officers conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle in the area of El Molino Avenue and Walnut Street for a vehicle code violation. Officers contacted the driver and determined he was on active parole and a search of his vehicle was conducted in accordance with the conditions of his parole status. During the search, Officers located and collected a firearm, additional pieces of a dis-assembled handgun, narcotics and evidence of identity theft. Officers arrested and transported to the driver to the Pasadena City Jail for booking.
Jan. 25
At 7:02 p.m., officers conducted a traffic stop for a vehicle code violation in the area of Holly Street and Orange Grove Boulevard. The driver was confirmed to be driving with a suspended license and when officers asked the driver to exit the car, he told the officers he had a gun in his waistband. The driver remained cooperative and the officers safely retrieved the handgun. Additional evidence was located which indicated the driver was possibly involved in EDD fraud.
At 8:41 p.m., officers conducted a traffic stop in the area of Arroyo Parkway and Del Mar Boulevard after observing a vehicle code violation. The driver did not possess a valid driver’s license and a search of the vehicle was conducted. A passenger advised officers there was a firearm in the vehicle, which was retrieved by officers along with a large amount of narcotics and U.S. currency.
Jan. 28
At 9:51 a.m., officers responded to the 1300 block of North Fair Oaks Avenue regarding an assault. The victim, who was unloading his vehicle, noticed another vehicle drive towards him. The suspect, who was seated in the approaching vehicle, pointed a firearm at the victim and threatened to shoot the victim. The victim fled into the house to call police as the suspect vehicle sped off. The suspect vehicle was not located by responding officers.
At 9:48 p.m., officers responded to the 500 block of Del Monte Street regarding the theft of a delivery vehicle. The victim was delivering items when two suspects, armed with a handgun, confronted him. The victim was unharmed, but the suspects took the vehicle and other deliverable items contained in the delivery vehicle. A short time later, the vehicle was located nearby on a residential street. It had been abandoned and the rest of the contents were removed.
Jan. 29
At 12:35 a.m., officers responded to the call of a carjacking in the 200 block of East Howard Street. The victim parked her vehicle while leaving the doors unlocked, the vehicle running and a sleeping adult inside. As the vehicle owner ran into her home, the suspects got into the vehicle and drove off. The sleeping adult awoke and realized an unknown individual was driving. When the suspects noticed there remained a person in the vehicle they had stolen, they stopped the car, ordered her out and again, fled in the car. The sleeping individual was not injured.
At 12:43 a.m., officers responded to a disturbance call in the 800 block of Worcester Avenue. While the officers were investigating this incident, officers recognized a male subject who walked into the residence, was wanted for attempted murder. Officers detained the subject without incident and while being searched, he was found to be in possession of both a loaded firearm and narcotics.
At 11:30 p.m., officers responded to Washington Park due to reports of shots heard in the area. Officers arrived on scene and found evidence of a shooting inside the park however, there were no witnesses or victims located.
Jan. 30
At 12:28 a.m., while investigating the previous incident of shots heard at Washington Park, officers responded to the area of El Molino Avenue and Orange Grove Boulevard in response to additional shots heard by officers. Officers located evidence of a shooting in the 600 block of North El Molino Avenue. No victims were located.
At 12:50 p.m., officers located an individual in the 400 block of North Garfield Avenue who was wanted for numerous criminal violations. As officers attempted to contact the individual, he fled on foot. A containment was established and after an exhaustive search, the suspect was located and taken into custody.
At 2:21 p.m., officers responded to the report of an assault in the 300 block of Parke Street. The victim was walking in the area when two suspects brandishing a knife, approached him. The suspects demanded the victim’s money and after a struggle for control of the knife, the victim received lacerations to his hand. The suspects were not located, as the incident was not immediately reported.
At 7:31 p.m., officers conducted a traffic stop for a moving violation in the area of Howard Street and Navarro Avenue. Officers detained the driver of the vehicle for the violation and he consented to a search. Officers discovered an un-serialized handgun inside of the vehicle, which led to the driver’s arrest for possessing a concealed and unregistered weapon.
Jan. 31
At 11 a.m., officers conducted a traffic stop in the area of Lincoln Avenue and Montana Street for a traffic violation. The driver initially refused to cooperate with the officers and acted extremely agitated. The suspect was eventually detained without incident and officers learned he had an outstanding warrant for his arrest. A loaded firearm was located during a search of the suspect’s vehicle.
