Cotoni-Coast Dairies National Monument, designated through a presidential proclamation in 2017, may be host to approximately 26.5 new miles of trail if the California Coastal Commission votes to approve a proposed management plan from the Bureau of Land Management at the commission’s Dec. 11 meeting.

(Dan Coyro — Santa Cruz Sentinel) DAVENPORT — A federal management plan that promises to aid in wildfire recovery and promote access to coastal land in and around Davenport is in the final phases of public outreach. The Cotoni-Coast Dairies National Monument, which has been through several public review phases since its introduction as a national monument in 2017, has been reviewed and revamped through a plan going to the California Coastal Commission on Dec. 11.

Before the U.S. Department of the Interior representatives present it to the commission, interested individuals can submit written comment by Thursday or log in to the Zoom meeting that morning to speak. The purpose of the plan, according to its letter to readers from the Bureau of Land Management division, is to increase the opportunity for outdoor recreation, address the impacts of wildland fires and establish long-term management of the property.
