The Monrovia Association of Fine Arts encourages amateurs, families, students and professionals to create chalk art displays on driveways or sidewalks from Nov. 26-29 and compete for $50 gift certificates to local small businesses chosen in a drawing by the Monrovia Chamber president.
The theme of the event is “What We’re Thankful For” but artists can choose their own theme as long as it is family friendly.
All Monrovia residents can enter. Artists under the age of 18 will need parental permission and the parent should appear in the art photograph with the child. Monrovia resident children under 12 must have written permission of parent or guardian. Artists and chalk artists can enter no matter where they reside.
To register, fill out a ChalksGiving registration form at monroviafinearts.org.
To get your free ChalksGiving starter kit, including chalk, take a printout of your ChalksGiving registration confirmation to MAFA’s partner office at Century 21 Adams & Barnes, 433 W. Foothill Blvd., Monrovia. They are open Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Entries must be submitted by midnight on Nov. 29. MAFA will email a form that participants must fill out and submit with two photos to christine@monroviafinearts.org. One photo must be of the art piece alone and the other must include the art piece with its creators (and parent if the creator is a minor) next to their masterpiece. Both photos must include the MAFA logo placard included in the starter kit at the lower right-hand corner of the photos.
Winners will be determined by a MAFA jury panel whose decision is final.
