Lashing wire may have caused the devastating October Silverado Fire in southern California. An investigation of the Silverado Fire in Irvine, California points to lashing wire from a nearby electrical facility as the potential cause of the fire, according to NBC News .

Southern California Edison, an electrical supply company, stated that “a lashing wire that was attached to an underbuilt telecommunication line” may have ignited the fire. The company is collaborating with the Orange County Fire Authority to determine if this is in fact the case.

The wildfire that covered 13,390 acres has seen over 75,000 people evacuated as of October 27. Five firefighters were injured, but have since been released from the hospital. Two firefighters are still in critical condition. As of October 30, the fire is 70% contained, according to NBC Los Angeles . It is not expected to reach full containment until November 10.
