The choking smoke that turned the Bay Area sky an apocalyptic orange-red earlier this week and pumped noxious ash into the air should begin to dissipate Monday and give way to normal temperatures, a National Weather Service meteorologist said. Devastating fires raging across the Pacific Northwest and parts of Northern California will continue to push smoke into the Bay Area on Sunday , but meteorologist Ryan Walbrun said he was optimistic that western winds off the ocean “should start to clear some of the smoke out” as the new week begins. “That’s the somewhat good news,” Walbrun said. “There’s a pretty substantial storm system off the coast of Washington and Oregon that will bring a lot of stronger winds in the upper atmosphere across the Pacific. That should flush out the smoke as we get persistent winds.
