City of Monrovia Advises Non-Residents to Avoid Areas Above Foothill as Bobcat Fire Grows to 36K Acres
TheCity of Monrovia advises non-residents to avoid areas above Foothill Boulevard toensure that if an evacuation order is issued in response to the Bobcat Fire, residentscan evacuate and streets are easily accessible for public safety crews.
Lastweek, the City of Monrovia received reports of vehicles blocking traffic inresidential neighborhoods, creating public safety concerns and even delayingfire engines from reaching their intended destination. These traffic jams werecaused by people traveling to the areas north of Foothill Boulevard to observeand photograph the fire.
TheMonrovia Police Department has established roadblocks throughout the plannedevacuation routes to discourage visitors from impeding potential evacuationroutes. Those travelling through will be asked to show ID or proof of residencefor access to areas highlighted on the evacuation map.
Residentsnorth of Foothill Boulevard and east of Santa Anita Avenue remain under anevacuation warning. Evacuation warnings remain in effect for the foothillcommunities of Monrovia, Bradbury, Sierra Madre, Altadena, Duarte and Pasadena.
Asof Monday, the Bobcat Fire has grown to 36,366 acres and remains 6% contained.
Amandatory evacuation order has been issued for all residents north of ElkinsAvenue and east of Santa Anita Avenue in the City of Arcadia and portions ofSierra Madre. Residents are advised to evacuate the area using Santa Anita Avenue.San Gabriel Canyon including Camp Williams remains under an evacuation order. ARed Cross evacuation center has been established at Santa Anita Park, locatedat 285 W. Huntington Drive, Arcadia, CA, 91007. Residents are advised to enterthrough Gate 5.
