

Nearlya month after a Pasadena police officer shot and killed Anthony McClain on Aug.15, the Pasadena Police Department has identified the officer who shot McClain.
Theofficer involved in the incident is Officer Edwin Dumaguindin, according to apress release issued by the department Thursday. He has been a police officer withthe Pasadena Police Department for the past two years. At the time of theincident, Dumaguindin was not, nor has he ever been, assigned to the PoliceDepartment’s Special Enforcement Section, a now disbanded gang enforcement unitat the center of several controversies for the department.
Speculationon social media and in some media outlets had incorrectly identified anotherofficer as having shot McClain. In its statement explaining the delay in identifyingDumaguindin, the department sites concerns for the officer’s safety. “Theseposts and comments were initially directed at an incorrectly identified officerand included a post that brazenly stated the officer ‘needs to die.’ All employersare expected to protect their employees from any threats of violence and is thereason Chief Perez worked to protect the officer’s identity.”
