The City of Arcadia and the Arcadia Fire Department are currently monitoring the Bobcat Fire burning north of Monrovia. The city is requesting all residents to continue to prepare for potential evacuations by preparing a “Ready, Set, Go” bag and planning for alternate accommodations should evacuations be ordered.
Officials are planning for the possibility that the fire breaches the city limits and are making plans for potential evacuations if they are needed. While the City of Arcadia is not ordering evacuations at this time, every resident — especially those living north of Sycamore Street and east of Santa Anita Boulevard — should prepare for the possibility.
Residents and forest visitors have been evacuated from Big Santa Anita Canyon, Mt. Wilson, San Gabriel Canyon, and Monrovia Canyon.
Foothill neighborhoods in Monrovia and Duarte have already been issued evacuation warnings — meaning that there is a potential threat to life and/or property, and that those who require additional time to evacuate, and those with pets and livestock should leave now.
The city is also requesting that residents refrain from calling the police or fire departments regarding fire updates. Should evacuations be mandated, the Arcadia Police Department will coordinate the process and every residence will be contacted individually during the process.
The Bobcat Fire began Sunday near Deer Park and has been moving in heavy brush toward Monrovia. As of Tuesday morning, the fire had burned 8,553 acres, was 0% contained and was causing unhealthy air quality. Tuesday’s Santa Ana Winds are expected to push the fire south after mid-day.
Currently, there are limited resources for the fire, according to the U.S. Forest Service.
