The Adult Monrovia Area Partnership (MAP) Leadership Academy was formed to educate residents about city government and its functions, and to provide leadership skills and resources so that people can become more active in the community. This academy provides graduates with a solid foundation of knowledge to jump-start their work in the community.
The MAP Youth Leadership Academy is designed specifically to help youth learn, develop and grow so they, in turn, can take active roles in the health of their community.
The eight-week adult academy is held on Thursdays from 7-9 p.m. It begins on Sept. 10 and ends Oct. 29. The adult class schedule is as follows:
- Class 1 | Sept. 10 | Get to know MAP and each other.
- Class 2 | Sept. 17 | History of Monrovia.
- Class 3 | Sept. 24 | How to be a leader.
- Class 4 | Oct. 1 | Local government 101.
- Class 5 | Oct. 8 | Achieving Community Trust (ACT) Program.
- Class 6 | Oct. 15 | Community tools and resources.
- Class 7 | Oct. 22 | Public speaking in local government.
- Class 8 | Oct. 29 | Action!
- Virtual Graduation | Nov. 17 during live City Council meeting.
The eight-week youth academy starts on Sept. 9 and goes until Oct. 28. Every class is held on Wednesdays from 3:30-5 p.m. Participants must be in sixth through 12th grade. The youth class schedule is as follows:
