Donations will be collected Aug. 22 at Methodist Church

Monrovian Nathan Schwandt is working on a special Eagle Scout project to help area homeless people.

Schwandt, a graduate of Monrovia High School’s Math and Science Academy, currently serves at Foothills Kitchen in Monrovia, a group of volunteers that depends on donations to prepare and serve a free meal to those in need.

In an email to Monrovia Weekly, Schwandt shares the premise of his project. “I am holding a donation drive for blankets, sleeping bags, tents, and brand new socks. The blankets and sleeping bags can be used, but they must be washed before brought to our collection day.” Monetary donations will also be accepted and used to purchase new items that are still needed after the collection day.

The collection day will be held at Methodist Church (140 E. Palm Ave., Monrovia CA 91016) on Aug. 22 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Those who would like to help can also make donations through a GoFundMe page organized by Schwandt.

Schwandt plans to attend Pasadena City College and says the project appealed to him “because it helped so many people who are overlooked in our society. Sometimes people just need a little bit of help, and I am happy to offer that help for them.”
