Playshave power. They “hold a mirror up to nature.” (Thanks, Shakespeare.) Eachmonth Boston Court Pasadena will read a play that is vitally relevant tosomething happening in the world today and then have a casual communityconversation about the script and the story.

Thefirst book club discussion will discuss “Bars and Measures” by Idris Goodwin onSunday, Aug. 16 at 4 p.m.

“Barsand Measures” is a play about two brothers, both musicians. Classical pianistEric is Christian and jazz bassist Bilal is Muslim. Separated by prison barsand religious convictions, the brothers connect through their shared languageof music.
