After weeks of protests at Library Park in Monrovia and endless discussions on race relations and police brutality in the wake of George Floyd’s murder at the knee of a white police officer in May, activists in the community say they’ve had enough and want to make changes to the system and it starts at home, say local organizers.

Students, activists and local citizens plan on addressing the mayor’s comments last week by flooding council with letters of concern that they hope will be read at the virtual council meeting June 16. Many Black Lives Matter activists believe Tom Adams is not aligned with the issues that have spawned these daily protests at Library Park.

People are encouraged to email concerns to cityclerk@ci.monrovia.ca.us or fill out speaker cards for public comment. Call the city clerk for details at (626) 932-5550

Regular meetings of the City Council are held on the first and third Tuesday of each month at 7:30 p.m. in the City Council Chambers. Community Media of the Foothills (KGEM) shows both live broadcasts and replays of City Council meetings on cable television and over the internet.
