Pasadena City Manager Cautiously Optimistic about Variance Approval that could see restaurants opening soon
By Terry Miller
What a long strange trip it has been. Especially for local businesses like restaurants..
The coronavirus has affected each of usin so many ways and the task of getting “back to normal” is no small featindeed.
On Friday, however, the state offeredrestaurants an olive branch and now sets the guidelines for the reopening of restaurants, hairdresser and barbershops.
“We have been expecting approval of thevariance for Los Angeles County. Guided by the policy direction of theCity Council, staff has been hard at work developing the plans and protocols toenable our various business sectors to re-open within the parametersestablished by the California Department of Public Health. While we aregrateful that more parts of our local economy may operate again, we must bemindful that until there is a vaccine for COVID-19, it is vitally important thatwe follow the advice of health professionals to reduce the risk of transmission,Steve Mermell Pasadena City Manager”
According to PIO Lisa Derderian there isno timeframe for orders or guidelines to be finalized
Since March 17, restaurants have been shuttered and thenforced only to serve take out which doesn’t come anywhere near covering costsof maintaining a thriving restaurant.
Statement bySupervisor Kathryn Barger:
“Today’s announcement bythe State represents monumental progress for Los Angeles County as we join thevast majority of other regions in California on the path toward reopening andrecovery. I am grateful to our state and local partners for their collaborationin helping us transition to being Safer at Work and Saferin our Communities.
“This approval by the State enables the Countyto immediately allow for the safe reopening of in-person dining, hair salons, and barber shops — further bringing ourcommunities together and resuming to a sense of normalcy. Our ability tocontinue on the path of reopening will depend on our adherence to physicaldistancing and face covering guidelines to ensure we are able to protect thepublic health of our residents.”
