Arcadia Crime Blotters: April 26 – May 2

April26

At 11:34 a.m., the Arcadia Police Departmentreceived an electronically submitted police report of a package theft thatoccurred in the 2200 block of South Santa Anita Avenue. Surveillance footage capturedthe suspect jumping over the victim’s front gate and stealing her package. Thesuspect then opened the package, took the stolen property, and left the box.The suspect is described as a “young, white male.” The investigation isongoing.

At 3:25 p.m., an officernoticed broken glass outside the entrance to One West Bank, located at 1 E.Foothill Blvd. Surveillance footage revealed a lone male suspect was walking bythe entrance when the front glass door shattered. It does not appear that thesuspect entered the business or stole any property. The investigation isongoing. 

April27

At 6:16 p.m., an officer responded to Cabrera’sRestaurant, located at 625 E. Live Oak Ave., regarding a theft and aggravatedassault that had just occurred. After receiving free chips and salsa earlier,the suspect returned to the restaurant, stole three beers, and, when confrontedby an employee, the suspect hit the employee on the head with a glass bottle.The assault resulted in a laceration to the victim’s forehead. The suspect fledon foot to the horse trail. He is described as a Hispanic male, approximately 5feet 9 inches tall, about 250 pounds. The investigation is ongoing. 

At 9:59 p.m., an officer responded to adisturbance between a driver and a pedestrian in the 400 block of FairviewAvenue. As the driver drove into a shared residential driveway, the pedestrian,in fear that the vehicle was going to hit him, punched a closed window of thevehicle, and then thrust a knife through the driver’s open window. The driverwas not injured. Through an investigation, the officer located the suspect, andthe 55-year-old male pedestrian from Arcadia was arrested and transported tothe Arcadia City Jail for booking.

April28

At 3:36 a.m., an officer responded to SphinxMart, located at 142 E. Huntington Drive, regarding a commercial burglaryinvestigation. An investigation revealed a suspect smashed a front windowcausing the alarm to activate, but a large metal security gate behind the frontwindow prevented the suspect from entering. No loss was reported. Theinvestigation will continue pending a review of additional surveillancefootage.

At 5:07 a.m., officers responded to an alley inthe 100 block of Alta Street regarding a subject yelling and breaking glass. Asthe officer arrived on scene, he witnessed a subject running north, noticedfresh pry marks on security bars to Sphinx Mart, and located a large crowbarnearby. Assisting officers helped locate two juvenile subjects. One of thesubjects, a 16-year-old male from Arcadia, admitted to vandalizing the location.An investigation revealed the second subject, a 15-year-old male from Monrovia,was likely the lookout. Both juveniles were detained, and then released to thecustody of their parents pending formal charges by the Los Angeles CountyDistrict Attorney’s Office.

At 10:22 a.m., an officer responded to the 00block of Cornell Drive regarding a petty theft investigation. Sometime duringthe previous night, unknown suspect(s) stole the victim’s catalytic converterfrom his Honda Element. There was no suspect information at the time of the report.  

At 3:05 p.m., an officer responded to Arcadia MentalHealth, located at 330 E. Live Oak Ave., regarding a theft from motor vehicleincident. An investigation revealed the suspect, who had checked into thefacility as a parolee just moments earlier, exited the building, thenunlawfully entered the victim’s vehicle, and stole various camping items andshoes. The suspect fled as the victim attempted to approach him. He has beenidentified as a 40-year-old male from Glendora. Further efforts are underway tolocate this male suspect and arrest him.  

April30

At 8:45 a.m., an officer responded to theArcadia Community Center, 365 Campus Drive, regarding a vandalism report. Theofficer determined a handicapped pole had been cut at the base for no apparentreason. There is no suspect information at the time of this report.

At 10:22 a.m., an officerreceived a telephonic report of fraud that occurred in the 00 block of EastHuntington Drive. The victims, S Sanders Company, mailed a check to theintended recipient then discovered the check had been stolen, altered, andissued to a different name. The investigation is ongoing.     

May1

At 3:16 p.m., an officer received a telephonicreport of a vandalism that occurred at West Coast Elite Gymnastics, located at900 S. Santa Anita Ave. An investigation revealed unknown suspect(s) scratchedmarks on the north and west doors, and it appeared as if the suspect(s) also threwa rock at one of the doors. There is no suspect information as of the time ofthis report.

At 4:05 p.m., an officertook a telephonic report of mailbox tampering from the 1000 block of ArcadiaAvenue. Sometime during the previous 24 hours, unknown suspect(s) tampered withthe community mailboxes and the reporting party could not confirm if mail hadbeen stolen. No other victims came forward. There is no suspect information asof the time of this report.

May2

At 10:14 a.m., an officer responded to aresidence in the 100 block of East Longden Avenue regarding a burglaryinvestigation. The officer determined an unidentified suspect likely enteredthe residence through an unlocked gate, and then an unlocked side garage door.The suspect(s) fled with a television and miscellaneous power tools. There isno suspect information as of the time of this report.

At 7:25 p.m., officers responded to Vons,located at 745 W. Naomi Ave., regarding a welfare check of a male who appearedto be passed out inside his vehicle. Upon contacting the driver, the officerdetected a strong odor of alcohol emitting from his person. The driverconsented to a Preliminary Alcohol Screening Device test and the resultsindicated he had a blood alcohol content level of 0.191%. The 26-year-old malefrom Panorama City was arrested and transported to the Arcadia City Jail forbooking.
