On March 8, the Monrovia Historical Preservation Group and the Monrovia Historical Museum are co-sponsoring an event on women’s suffrage and the 19th Amendment.
The 19th amendment granted women the right to vote. After nearly a century of protest, the amendment was finally ratified in August of 1920. This year will be the 100th anniversary of this achievement.
The event will include a talk on suffrage by Pauline Field, chairman of 50/50 Leadership— a nonprofit organization promoting women’s equal leadership. Field also rode on a women’s suffrage float in this year’s Tournament of Roses Parade and will offer comments on that experience as well.
There will also be displays including a timeline of significant events in Monrovia’s history led by women.
The event will take place Sunday, March 8, at 1:30 p.m., at the museum, 742 E. Lemon Ave., Monrovia. Light refreshments will be served and attendance is free and open to the public.
