The City of Arcadia receives over $1.5 million in annual revenue from Santa Anita Park, according to a report from Keyser Marston Associates, which was commissioned for the city’s Economic Development Division. Over the next five years, the racetrack is estimated to generate $7.5 million in sales tax, pari-mutuel revenue and property tax.
According to the report, which was submitted in the fourth quarter of 2019, Santa Anita Park is responsible for 1,160 jobs annually. It is estimated that these employees spend an average of nearly $5 million in off-site expenditures on dining, goods and services in the city of Arcadia. These numbers do not include the more than 1,000 people, including trainers, jockeys, exercise riders and groomers, who care for the horses housed in the Santa Anita stable area. The revenue figures also do not include the financial impact of neighboring cities in the San Gabriel Valley, such as Pasadena, Monrovia and Sierra Madre.
The report concluded that Santa Anita draws between 1.3 and 1.5 million visitors annually to the racetrack for both racing and non-racing events, with an annual consumer spending of $31.9 million separate from pari-mutuel betting.
The numbers cited in the Keyser Marston Associates report are exclusive of the increased economic impact seen during years that Santa Anita hosts the Breeders’ Cup.
